Meraki Agency presents an exhibition by Marilou Klapwijk
‘Sweetness & Other Life-Threatening Situations’
Illustration and Related Matters
A selection of the series of illustrations called ‘Sweetness & Other Life-Threatening Situations’ will be on display during the second weekend of November. This in combination with ‘The related Matters’ from the artist’s archive.
The gallery is located at a prime spot in a by-street of one of Rotterdam’s busiest and art orientated streets; De Witte de Withstraat.
Kromme Elleboog 35, Rotterdam
Marilou Klapwijk (1990) creates work that caresses and bites simultaneously. Cotton candy colored, recognizable objects are placed in less than attractive situations, critiquing familiar elements. The scenes are comprised of fragments from a conscientiously built up archive consisting of notations, one-liners, short videos, and photographs. A way for Marilou to live out loud.
To preserve the impact of the fine arts, an adequate translation to the commercial system is necessary. This is not to erase the divide between art and commerce but to acknowledge it. Meraki Agency aims to approach this divide from the artist’ perspective, by providing support in business, pr and acquisition and so translate the artist’ story in the best suitable way.
